Beginning Monday, October 12th, 2026, the Viking Drive corridor from 5th Ave SW to 6th Ave SW will be closed to all traffic including pedestrians. The closure will remain in effect until the first phase of construction is completed, which is anticipated to last approximately two weeks. A signed detour route utilizing 4th Ave SW, 4th St SW, and 8th Ave SW will be provided for both pedestrian and vehicular access. All trucks are to utilize designated truck routes during closure periods.
Phase 2 bridge reconstruction is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2027, and the roadway will again be closed, with an anticipated duration extending into early Fall 2027. More details regarding Phase 2 will be provided at a later date.
