Concrete Pavement Repair – Weekend of August 25

As part of the work being complete on the concrete pavement repair project, the Contractor will begin concrete grinding on Saturday, August 25th. The work will be completed in the following locations: 8th Ave SW between Main St and 2nd St SW, 8th Ave SW between Riverview Drive and the Sheyenne River bridge, and Winter Show Road between 8th Ave SW and 4th Ave SW. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic through the work areas. The work should be completed by Monday August 27th.

5th Avenue NE – Construction Update

Beginning August 6, 2018: 5th Avenue NE

The Valley City concrete pavement repair project will be opening both lanes to traffic on 5th Ave NE between 2nd St NE and 6th St NE on Monday, 8/6/18. The South bound lane between 7th St NE and 12th St NE will then be closed to traffic. All traffic to continue following the temporary traffic signals. No parking will be permitted on 5th Ave NE during construction. All truck traffic is to follow the established
truck route detour. Additional updates will be provided as needed.

3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction – Construction Update

Beginning July 30: 3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction

The 3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction Project is starting on Monday, July 30th, 2018. 3rd Avenue SE will be closed from Main St to 4th St SE. Traffic control signs will be installed on Friday, July 27th. The road and sidewalks will remain closed for the remainder of the project. A signed detour will be provided along 2nd Ave SE. The adjacent blocks of 2nd St SE and 3rd St SE will be closed to thru traffic, allowing only local traffic. 4th St SE and the 3rd Ave SE bridge will remain open with intermittent disruptions. Interested in Joining the VCFD?

The first step to admission to the fire department is to fill out the VCFD Application.

Once per year the fire department will review applications. A committee will then interview the applicants and choose those who appear to be qualified and willing to continue the process.

The candidate will need a doctors physical and drug test, along with a state criminal background check. If candidate passes the medical exam along with background, check he or she will be allowed to take the physical agility test as prescribed by the department.

As the candidate has passed all the requirements set forth, the chief will fill open spots on the roster with the most qualified applicants.

The candidate will begin the training to become a certified firefighter. Upon completion of all the requirements for a certified firefighter they will be presented with their certificate. The probationary member will be voted on after one year which is a vote of the full department membership. If there is a successful vote, the probationary candidate will become a full member. If the probationary member has not passed the firefighter 1 certification in the first year they will remain on probation. They will be voted on as soon as they pass the firefighter 1 certification.

If the probationary member cannot pass the firefighter 1 certification within 2 years, they will be dismissed from the department.

Buying & Using Fireworks in Valley City

Valley City’s Fireworks Regulations for the July Independence Days

The city ordinance indicates:

The sale of fireworks starts June 27th of each year and ends July 5th.

The days of detonation or using your fireworks ARE NOT the same as the sale days.

Fireworks may be detonated on the following days:

  • July 1st  from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • July 2nd from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • July 3rd from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • July 4th from 8:00 AM to July 5th at 1:00 AM
  • July 5th from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM

You must be at least 12 years of age to buy fireworks.

 

Concrete Pavement Repair Work Begins

The concrete pavement repair project will begin construction on Monday 5/7/2018. The project consists of work on Winter Show road between 8th AVE SW and 4th AVE SW, 8th AVE SW from Winter Show road to Main Street, and 5th AVE NE from Main Street to 12th ST NE. Work on Monday will begin at the Winter Show Road location. The contractor will begin work in the westbound lane. Winter Show road will have a one way for traffic heading eastbound. The westbound lane will be closed to allow the concrete pavement repair work to be completed. Access to business will be provided. A truck route detour will be in place during the project. Additional updates will be provided as needed.

City Cleanup Week: May 7 – 11, 2018

Valley City will conduct its annual residential waste cleanup the week of May 7TH through
May 11TH. The free pickup and disposal is for residential waste only.

Valley City residents are encouraged to clean up, clean off, and clean out their properties.
On your regular garbage pickup day, put all your garbage, including the extra, out in your
regular pick up spot by 7:00 AM, and Valley City Public Works will pick it up. There is no
limit on the number of bags, cans, boxes, etc., and no extra charge. We will pick up general
household garbage, couches, chairs, furniture, branches and wood DO NOT BAG OR BOX
BRANCHES. Paints and liquids can be disposed of in a dry, hardened form. Cat litter, floor
dry or sawdust can be used to absorb the liquid. Empty cans can be left out with garbage.

LEFTOVER PAINT WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE LANDFILL DURING CLEAN UP
WEEK BUT MUST BE DRIED.

Residents may take their appliances to Truck and Auto Salvage or Valley Recycling Center.
There may be a fee for refrigeration or freezing units with Freon.

The following items WILL NOT be picked up:

  • Grass, leaves, yard waste need to be taken to the collection site at the landfill at no charge.
  • Tires must be taken to the transfer station. The disposal fee cannot be charged, cash
    only.
  • Batteries may be taken to the salvage yards or Valley Recycling Center.
  • Scrap metal may be taken to Valley Recycling Center.

Help the garbage crews by putting the garbage into boxes, bags or cans not to exceed 32
gallons or 50 lbs.

Note: Free disposal of grass, leaves, branches, trees, used motor oil and metal can be
disposed of at the Transfer Station all year long.

Main Street Closure Beginning 03/12/2018

VALLEY CITY, ND –

Permanent Flood Protection Phase 2 work will continue in Valley City. Beginning Monday, March 12, 2018, Main Street will be closed between Central Ave and 5th Ave NW. Local traffic will be permitted to businesses inside of the road closures. Business signing will be provided. For the safety of the traveling public, traffic will be detoured onto 2nd Street NW during this shut down. A new truck route detour will be added utilizing 9th AVE NW, 12 Street North, and 5th AVE NE. The contractor will begin removing Main Street at this time and construction of the floodwalls will continue. Main Street will be closed for the 2018 construction season. Additional updates will be provided as needed.

Main Street Closure – 02/12/2018 to 02/21/2018

VALLEY CITY, ND –

Permanent Flood Protection Phase 2 work will resume in Valley City. Beginning Monday February 12, 2018, Main Street will be closed between Central Ave and 5th AVE NW. Local traffic will be permitted to businesses inside of the road closures. Business signing will be provided. The contractor will be resuming pile driving as well as staging materials and will need to have their crane and materials on Main Street during this time. For the safety of the traveling public traffic will be detoured onto 2nd Street NW during this shut down. Truck deliveries are encouraged to seek alternative routes. The road closure will last through February 21. Additional updates will be provided as needed.
