The Executive Assistant provides essential duties for the City Administrator and other upper-level executives, including the City Attorney, and otherwise contributes to the efficient operation of city government. This position requires a proactive approach, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment. The Executive Assistant works closely with executive and other staff members to ensure the smooth flow of information and activities within City Hall.
Starting salary DOE ($21.01 - $25.74). Position maximum: $30.47 (2024). Four percent cost of living increase approved for 2025. Benefits include medical insurance, HSA contribution, NDPERS Defined Benefit Plan, generous paid sick & annual leave, paid holidays, multiple life insurance and supplemental insurance policies. Full-time, non-exempt classification.
Education and experience: High School diploma or equivalent; four or more years of increasing responsibility assisting in an office setting, preferably with a public agency, municipality, or other political subdivision. Associate’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field preferred but not required. An appropriate equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by the City Administrator, will be considered. Required prior to hire date: valid driver’s license; must pass pre-employment background check which includes criminal history, credit history, and drug/alcohol screen.

The Valley City Police Department (VCPD) is now accepting applications to fill a Police Officer position.
Salary DOE, starting at $53,000. VCPD utilizes a 10-step pay schedule for patrol officers with a maximum of $74,512. Initial uniforms and equipment are provided along with a monthly uniform allowance. Many training and overtime opportunities are available. This position includes rotating shifts that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The City of Valley City offers NDPERS Public Safety retirement plan in addition to medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance including hospital, accident, cancer, and critical illness plans. The City provides life and ADD insurance at 2x officer salary plus a $50,000 line of duty benefit. Officers are also eligible for additional voluntary life insurance. Other benefits include paid family sick leave, opportunities to convert sick leave into annual leave, and annual cash incentives for gym memberships and wellness programs.
