The Administrative Assistant I is responsible for performing a wide variety of administrative support activities for City Hall, especially the Public Works department. The Administrative Assistant I is the first point of contact at the front desk of the Public Works business office and duties may include: performing a variety of receptionist and secretarial duties; answering phones; filing for customer account files; preparing service orders for utility customers; receiving and recording service complaints; accepting utility payments; preparing cash collection batches for deposit; maintaining informational pamphlets and brochures at front desk; assisting other office personnel with administrative tasks as time allows.
Starting salary range: $19.27 to $23.67/hour, DOE. Maximum salary for position (2025): $28.07. COLA increase and step awarded annually based on availability of funding. The Valley City Police Department (VCPD) is now hiring a Police Officer.
Police Officers are responsible for patrolling the streets of Valley City and enforcing state laws and city ordinances. Duties include: providing crime prevention and repression; performing criminal investigations; performing regulation of non-criminal activity; performing routine vehicle inspection of patrol unit on each shift; performing community service activities; responding to emergency situations and assisting in rescue operations; serving as tactical entry team member; and, participating in training.
Salary DOE, starting at $55,120 ($57,600 as of 1/1/2026). VCPD utilizes a 10-step pay schedule for patrol officers with a maximum of $80,979 (plus future cost of living increases). Initial uniforms and equipment are provided along with a monthly uniform allowance. Many training and overtime opportunities are available. This position includes rotating shifts that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The City of Valley City offers NDPERS Public Safety retirement plan in addition to medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance including hospital, accident, cancer, and critical illness plans. The City provides life and ADD insurance at 2x officer salary plus a $50,000 line of duty benefit. Officers are also eligible for additional voluntary life insurance.
