Valley City is now hiring an Accountant for the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Accountant is responsible for providing professional level accounting activities. Duties include reviewing general ledger codes and projects for accounts payable invoices; review coding for payroll time entry; preparing monthly financial statements; maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers; maintaining the property accounting system; assisting with audits; and, preparing the budget for the Public Works Department.

Full Job Description

Starting salary range: $30.88 to $37.06/hour, DOE. Maximum salary for position (2025): $43.24.  COLA increase and step awarded annually based on availability of funding. The City of Valley City offers retirement plans through NDPERS in addition to medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance including hospital, accident, cancer, and critical illness plans.  The City provides life and ADD insurance at 2x salary plus long-term disability.  Employees are also eligible for additional voluntary life insurance.  Other benefits include City HSA contributions, paid annual leave and family sick leave, opportunities to convert sick leave into annual leave, and annual cash incentives for gym memberships and wellness programs.

Full-time, exempt classification. Proposals to work part time will be considered.

Regular office schedule: M-F, 8-5.  Time outside of regular hours is required to complete all job duties.

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and two years of accounting experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential job duties; background check including references, criminal history, and drug screen.
