The Public Works Accountant is responsible for providing professional level accounting activities. Duties include reviewing general ledger codes and projects for accounts payable invoices; review coding for payroll time entry; preparing monthly financial statements; maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers; maintaining the property accounting system; assisting with audits; and, preparing the budget for the Public Works Department.
Starting salary range: $30.88 to $37.06/hour, DOE. Maximum salary for position (2025): $43.24. COLA increase and step awarded annually based on availability of funding. The City of Valley City offers retirement plans through NDPERS in addition to medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance including hospital, accident, cancer, and critical illness plans. The City provides life and ADD insurance at 2x salary plus long-term disability. Employees are also eligible for additional voluntary life insurance. The Public Works Specialist II is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of streets, water distribution and sewage collection systems, as well as collection of solid waste. Duties include operating and maintaining heavy equipment and/or possessing three Grade II certifications in water and sewage systems; there are no supervisory responsibilities.
Starting salary range: $23.68 to $28.52/hour, DOE. Maximum salary for position: $33.35. Additional $0.75/hour with Class A CDL. Benefits include medical insurance, HSA contribution, NDPERS Defined Contribution retirement plan, generous sick & annual leave, holidays, multiple life insurance and supplemental insurance policies. Salary DOE, starting at $55,120. VCPD utilizes a 10-step pay schedule for patrol officers with a maximum of $77,492.
